PE 3

PE 2 Reflection


I think I could have done better on this PE Cycle. It was interrupted by fall break and a hurricane, and I completely forgot about my playlist! But I am adding it to my goals again and will make sure to remember this time. I am still good at practicing in the シャワー though! Unfortunately for this cycle I had rehearsal for Wait Until Dark during almost every にほんごテーブル and was only able to attend one I think. As for shadowing, I watched all of デスノート as well as some にほんおえいが, so that was quite successful. I was able to shadow アニメ for one of my recordings, and I was very happy about that!! Next time I might try something by みやざきせんせい for my shadowing! Or possibly a song. I found that I still need a lot of help with pitch, so I'm going to try to improve on this in particular by adding some new goals!

 

PE 3 Goals


  •     Go to しばたせんせいの office hours to work on pitch and listening!!
  •     Download and listen to the recordings of all vocabulary lists, so that I can hear the pitch when I learn the words.
  •     Add one song a week to my にほんごのプレリスト!
  •     Continue studying Japanese in some way for at least さんじゅっぷん per weeknight.
  •     Practice in the シャワー!
  •     Go to にほんごテーブル!
  •     Speak as much にほんご as possible with my クラスメート, out of class as well as in class.

よじですよ


こんにちは!

わたしのしゅうまつはあまりにぎやかじゃないでした。きんようびに、にほんごのじゅぎょうがありました、そしてアルバイトにいきました。どようびのあさにあさごはんをたべました。ベーグルをたべました。どようびにあまりしゅくだいをしませんでした。ぜんぜんだいじょうぶじゃありませんでした。きょうはにちようびです。にほんごのしゅくだいをしました、そしていま、にほんごのしゅくだいをします!ごじにウィルコキシュホールでコーリジュカーウィンスルのミーティングがあります。ばんごはんをたべます。

PE 1 Reflection

 

I actually think I did a pretty good job with the last PE cycle. I can understand spoken Japanese much better now, which is probably because I became obsessed with Code Geass and watched (as well as shadowed some of) both seasons during the PE 1 cycle. So I definitely more than met my anime goal. The one thing I didn't do was read the Nakama textbook every day, but looking back I feel like this was a sort of silly goal. There isn't really much to read, and it will work better if I just say something like "study" for a certain amount per day. I was also a bit busy near the time when we needed to prepare for the Shadowing recording, so I ended up picking a pretty slow text to shadow, because shadowing anime was really hard! Next time I want to try anime!! 

PE 2 

 

Goals

As I said, I really want to be able to shadow anime successfully. I would also like to continue improving my listening-- especially when it comes to double consonants and long vowels. I want to work on particles as well, so that I don't have to think for a long time about which one I should use while I'm speaking. I also want to make my speaking flow more naturally in general.

Activities

  • Continue to watch and shadow at least 3 episodes of anime per week.
  • Study Japanese in some way for at least 30 minutes every week night.
  • Continue practicing in the shower! (I recommend this, it's way more fun than singing.)
  • Go to language tables whenever I don't have a conflict.
  • Ask Shibata-sensei to transcribe a short script of an anime for me to shadow when our next recording is due!
  • Make a にほんご playlist on my iPod and add at least one song to it per week!

So today in にほんご class, we learned about uses of the particle の, and I determined that the title of my blog is grammatically incorrect (which I sort of suspected anyway). That's what happens when you just flip through your book to look for random words that sound cool like たき (waterfall) and try to relate it to Japanese (waterfall of Japanese?? Sure, why not!?). But I guess "Japanese's waterfall" or "Japanese of waterfall" actually makes almost the same amount of sense as my intended meaning.

Oh well, it's not like my blog title will be read by lots of people in both this year's and next year's japanese class. 

Hooray for mildly embarrassing language learning mistakes! I'll leave it as a reminder.

UPDATE: After さとうせんせい publicly pointed out all of my blog's flaws (in a good way, haha), I have decided to edit my past Japanese so that it is less cute and more correct. To replace the cuteness that will be lost with the worst of my bad grammar, from now on I will be including more smileys.

PE 1 GOALS


  • I want to improve my speaking speed and work on learning the proper pitch patterns. I would like speaking in Japanese to feel more natural to me. I would also like to work on long vowels, and being able to hear them better in other peoples' speech.
ACTIVITIES
  • Read the textbook and study it for a minimum of 30 minutes a day, but for 1-2 hours per day every time I can manage it
  • Shadowing of an anime episode 2-3 times per week
  • Required shadowing and recording exercises
  • Practice speaking Japanese every time I take a shower
  • Go to Japanese Language table every time I can
I am going to try to dedicate myself as much as possible to studying Japanese in some way during most of my free time.

おはよう こんにちは と こんばんは! 

I am, as you can see from my html, so excited to be learning Japanese! I am a sophomore, planning on majoring in Art History. I already speak pretty fluent German, and so I'm planning on focusing on some sort of German Art, probably modern. But recently, I've been mourning the loss of my opportunity to examine the older Japanese art, which I am very fond of. So this summer I randomly decided to try and fit in both of those areas of study, and here I am!

I've always loved languages, and when I was a bit younger (ah, Jr. High) I was pretty obsessed with Manga and Japanese music and whatnot. Though I no longer spend my free time tracing comics and obsessing over men in makeup, I still feel a definite fondness for the Japanese culture, and for that reason I'm very enthusiastic about learning the language! It's so different from any language I've ever studied, and that makes it all the more fascinating. And don't get me wrong-- I still enjoy the occasional manga or anime (Death Note is pretty much one of the more amazing things ever), and I'm looking forward to possibly getting to the point where I can maybe read some in Japanese! But my main interest right now is Japanese art. I really hope I can get to the point of starting to learn classical Japanese so I can read some of the amazing poems they wrote on their scrolls!

Speaking of which, I'm not gonna lie-- calligraphy also seduced me probably more than it should have.

But so far I'm having a great time! Learning ひらがな is so fun and different from anything else I'm doing in my other classes, and so far Japanese is always my favorite class of the day! I don't even mind having it on Fridays!
